Handling and Caring for your Noritake
Durability – Noritake porcelain and bone china are some of the strongest ceramic dinnerware materials available. They are fired at the highest temperatures and are made of the strongest ingredients. This means can use your fine Noritake china as often as you wish with as much confidence, or more, as your "everyday" set of dishes.
Dishwasher Use – Noritake recently conducted extensive tests on several of its porcelain and bone china patterns and found that they are dishwasher safe. So feel free to use your "good” Noritake china any time. However we recommend that you keep the following in mind to keep your Noritake china in the best condition:
- Don't overload your dishwasher.
- Use the minimum amount of detergent, as per the detergent manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Use a non-abrasive liquid detergent, rather than a powder or tablets.
- After the drying cycle, let your Noritake cool down to room temperature before handling.
- Never put anything with metal (gold or platinum in the pattern or on the rim) in the microwave oven.
Most Noritake casual dinnerware is also oven and microwave-safe; detergent, refrigerator and freezer-safe. However, certain precautions should be taken.
- Avoid any sudden temperature change, such as putting a hot item into cool wash water.
- Never expose your Noritake dinnerware to direct flame, such as the top burners of a gas stove.
- Always be sure that food or liquid is in every piece before it is exposed to heat.
The History of Noritake
Noritake has been bringing beauty and quality to dinner tables around the world since 1904. Superior artistry and craftsmanship, attention to detail and uncompromising commitment to quality have made Noritake an international trademark during this past century.
The Noritake of today grew out of a trading company that was originally established by the Morimura Brothers in New York in 1876. This trading company imported chinaware, curios, paper lanterns and other gift items. In 1904, the forerunner of the Noritake Company was established in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near Nagoya, Japan. The goal of this first factory was to create western style dinnerware for export. It took until 1914, however, to create the first porcelain dinnerware plate that was suitable for export.
The earliest dinnerware plates were mostly hand-painted, often with liberal applications of gold. By the early 1920's, Noritake introduced assembly line techniques which allowed for mass production of high quality, yet affordable dinnerware. In the ensuing decades, Noritake continued to perfect its production capabilities and expand to markets world-wide.
Today, thanks to its distinctive designs, innovative technology and superior product quality, Noritake is now acknowledged as a world leader in tableware manufacturing.
